What MyCurrency is
MyCurrency lets businesses create their own point currencies, and lets you hold, send, and spend those points from your phone.
You can use the app in two ways, and most people end up doing both:
- As a customer. You collect points from the businesses you shop at, and spend them on products and services at their branches.
- As a business. You create your own currency, set up your branches and products, and reward your customers with points they can only spend with you.
Everything happens in one app. There is nothing extra to install to switch between the two.
Words you will see
| Word | What it means |
|---|---|
| Points | The value you hold. Every currency has its own points. |
| Currency | A business’s own points — for example “Travel Miles” from a travel agency. |
| Short code | The 2–3 letter code on a currency card, like TM or FCP. |
| Collected | Currencies you received from other businesses. |
| Issued | Currencies you created yourself, as a business. |
| Combined balance | Your personal balance plus your shared balance — what “your balance” means everywhere in the app. |
| Personal balance | The part of your balance only you can see. |
| Shared balance | The part you have chosen to show to other people, so they can send you trade offers. |
| Reference currency | The national money a currency is valued against (for example PHP). Fixed when the currency is created. |
| Points back | The reward rate a business gives you when you buy from them. |
| Burn rate / value decay | The yearly percentage by which unspent balances shrink. |
| Branch | A physical store location that accepts a currency. |
| Voucher | Your proof of purchase after you redeem points for a product. |
| Notices | Your in-app message inbox, opened from the bell icon. |
Getting started
3.1 Signing in
Open the app and you will see the Welcome to MyCurrency! screen with a short slideshow of what the app does. At the bottom, under Register with, tap either Google or Facebook.
- You sign in with an account you already have — there is no separate password to invent or remember.
- If you already had a MyCurrency account under the same email address, you are signed in to that account. A second account is never created for you.
- Your sign-in lasts 24 hours of activity. After that the app asks you to sign in again.
If sign-in fails, you will see a message such as “Google authentication error occurred. Please, try later”. Tap the button again. If you originally registered with the other provider, use that one instead.
3.2 Setting up your profile
The first time you sign in, a three-step setup opens. You cannot skip it — the account is switched on only when you finish.
Step 1 — Choose your username. Type the name other people will see. Rules:
- It cannot be empty.
- It cannot contain spaces — use an underscore instead (
maria_santos). - It must not already be taken by anyone else.
- It is permanent. You cannot change it later, so choose carefully.
Step 2 — Add your photo. Optional. Tap the circle to pick a picture, or just tap Next — a default picture is used. You can add or change your photo later from your profile.
Step 3 — Choose your location. Search for your city, region, or country, or pick an exact spot on the map. This is required, and it is what the app uses to show you nearby stores. If you allow location access, nearby places are suggested automatically.
Tap Finish. Your account switches on and My Wallet opens.
Tip: If you close the app part-way through setup, nothing is lost and nothing is saved — you simply start the wizard again next time you open the app. Tapping Back on Step 1 signs you out.
Your wallet
My Wallet is your home screen. At the top you will find the title, a QR button, a notification bell, and your profile picture. Below that are two tabs.
4.1 The Collected tab
Everything you have received from other businesses. Each currency card shows:
- the business name first, and the currency name beneath it
- your balance with its short code (for example
1,250.00 FCP) - an approximate product value in your national money (for example approx. ₱125 product value)
- chips such as 3 branches, 1%–10% back, and Burns daily
At the top of the tab are two swipeable cards:
- Ready to use — how many products your points can already buy nearby, with a Find places button.
- Earn more — how many nearby places give out their currency, and the best points-back rate around you.
Only three cards show at first. Tap View all to see the rest; scrolling loads more.
A currency at zero balance is not shown in Collected. It reappears the next time you receive points in it.
4.2 The Issued tab
Currencies you created yourself. Each card shows the business name, currency name, a Live or In setup badge, the balance, and a Manage or Finish setup button. See section 13.
4.3 Currency details
Tap any card to open its detail screen. From there you can send points, manage visibility, view burn details, see the branch catalogue, and open the full activity history for that one currency.
Earning points
There are three ways points arrive in your wallet.
5.1 A merchant scans your QR code
This is the most common way. Tap the QR button at the top of My Wallet to show your personal code, and let the cashier scan it. The points arrive immediately.
Your QR code works even with no internet connection. If you open the app offline, you land on a screen titled You’re offline with a Show my QR code button. (This only works if you have opened the app online at least once before, so the code could be saved on your phone.)
5.2 You scan the merchant’s QR code
Some counters show you a code instead. Scan it with the MyCurrency app and the points are delivered instantly. If the code has already expired, ask the cashier to show a fresh one.
5.3 Someone sends you points
Points sent by another person land in your personal balance right away. You get an in-app notice — “You received a transfer from …” — and the transfer appears in your history. You do not have to do anything, and you do not need to have held that currency before.
Spending points
You spend points on products at a business’s branch. The cashier starts the sale on their device; you finish it on yours.
At the counter:
- The cashier prepares the product and shows a code on their screen.
- Scan that code with your phone camera. The app opens the Confirm redemption screen.
- Check the product, the quantity (it is fixed — the cashier set it), the total in points, and your Available balance.
- Tap Confirm redemption.
Your points are deducted, and a voucher — your proof of purchase — is created already marked as redeemed. The cashier’s screen confirms within moments.
If your balance is short, a red line reads “You need 250.00 FCP more” and the confirm button stays greyed out. Nothing is spent.
If you scan with a plain camera app instead of MyCurrency, a web page opens with a button to open or install the app — never a dead link.
6.1 Your purchases
Open Orders from your profile, or tap Go to my purchases right after buying, to see My Purchases — a record of everything you have redeemed: what you bought, where, and when.
Each voucher shows the product photo, quantity, branch, category, purchase date, and a badge reading Redeemed, Expired, or the days remaining.
Vouchers expire 30 days after they are created. Older vouchers that were not redeemed at the counter can still be used: open the voucher and show its QR Code tab, or copy the Text Code and give it to the branch owner.
Sending points to another person
- Open the currency you want to send from and tap Send.
- Type part of the person’s username — matching people appear to pick from. Recent contacts are offered too.
- Enter the amount. The field shows your maximum, and quick buttons (100, 200, Max) are there for speed.
- Tap Send Funds.
A Transfer Details receipt shows the recipient, currency, amount, date, and your balance before and after. The recipient’s balance rises immediately, and they get a notice.
Things to know:
- The smallest amount you can send is 1.00 points.
- If part of your balance is shared and part is personal, the app quietly draws on both. You do not need to move anything first.
- The recipient never has to “accept” — the points simply arrive.
Finding places to earn and spend
The Stores tab has two views:
- Places to earn — stores that give out their currency when you shop. Each card shows the business, address with distance, the points-back rate, how many products they have, and a View store button.
- Spend — stores where your existing balances can be used. Each card shows your current balance, its approximate value, and product previews.
A location row at the top switches between Local (nearest to your saved place) and Global (everywhere). Tap CHANGE to pick a different place — it stays for the rest of your session.
Tap the search icon to search branches by name.
Value decay — why balances shrink
Most currencies carry a burn rate: a yearly percentage, chosen by the business that created it, between 0% and 20%. Once a day, a tiny fraction of your balance in that currency is removed, sized so that a full year removes exactly the yearly percentage.
This is deliberate. It is there to encourage points to be spent rather than hoarded, and the business decides the rate — the app never adds one on its own.
Where you see it:
- A Burns daily chip on collected currency cards.
- A 5% burn pill on issued currency cards.
- Today’s Auto-Burn on the currency detail screen — for example
-0.68 TM.
Tap any of these to open the Burn Details sheet, which shows your current balance, the lifetime amount burned, the annual rate, and the next daily deduction. Tap the deduction row to see the full history of every rate change the business has made.
A currency at 0% never shrinks, and shows none of these chips.
Practical advice: treat points like a gift card with a slow clock. If you are holding a large balance in a fast-burning currency, spend it sooner.
Your activity and notifications
10.1 Transactions
Open Transactions from your profile or the wallet’s View all link. Movements are listed newest first, grouped by day, with today headed Today.
Each row shows the other person, what happened (Received, Sent, Added, Order product), the currency, the signed amount, and your balance right after the event. Tap any row for a detail card with your before and after balances.
The list holds your 100 most recent items. My Wallet also shows a Recent Activity preview of the three newest.
10.2 Notices
Tap the bell in the header to open your inbox. Notices are grouped by day, newest first, and every one you have not opened yet carries a red dot. Tap a row to read the full message.
The red count on the bell clears once you have seen the list. Individual dots clear only when you open that specific notice.
If you allow phone notifications, you also get a banner when something happens. If you decline, nothing breaks — the inbox still records everything.
Trading with other people
You can propose a trade to anyone whose balance is publicly visible, and to any currency’s issuer.
11.1 Making an offer
Tap Make offer from a holder list, product page, or someone’s profile. A three-step wizard opens:
- Request — what you want to get. Tap a currency card, type an amount, tap Confirm. The card collapses into a green summary line.
- Your Offer — what you will give. Currencies you collected are capped at your visible balance; currencies you created yourself have no cap.
- Review Trade — check both sides, then Send Offer.
Limits: at least 5 points per card, and at most 6 currencies in one offer.
11.2 Responding to an offer
Received offers appear in the Offers tab of Marketplace, and recent ones in a Priority strip. Open one and you can:
- Accept — the trade completes immediately and both sides move.
- Decline — the negotiation ends. No balances change.
- Counter — the wizard opens pre-filled with the current terms; change what you like and send it back. Counters can go back and forth freely.
On a counter you received, a banner tells you how it compares to your own last offer: green ▲ “About ₱50.00 better for you”, red ▼ “About ₱50.00 less favorable to you”, or “About the same as your last offer”.
11.3 Offer states
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Open | Waiting for the other person. |
| Received | Waiting for you. |
| Accepted | Done — points have moved. |
| Declined | The other person said no. |
| Canceled | Ended automatically — usually the offered balance dropped too low, or someone deactivated their account. |
| Closed | Replaced by a later counter; kept for history. |
There is no cancel button. Points move only when an offer is accepted.
11.4 Marketplace listings
You can also publish a listing that links to a Craigslist post and optionally attaches an amount of your currency. The four-step wizard asks for a headline, the currency to include, the Craigslist link (it must match the suggested title exactly), and a final review.
Privacy controls
12.1 Who sees your balance
By default, other people cannot see what you hold. Open a currency and tap Manage Visibility to choose:
- Show Full Balance — updates automatically as you collect more.
- Show a Custom Amount — show only up to a set figure.
- Hidden — keep it private. You will not receive trade offers for it.
Making a balance visible is what lets other people send you offers, so it is a trade-off between privacy and opportunity.
12.2 What others see on your profile
Other people see your photo, username, star rating, city-level location, product and cancellation counts, and your branches, currencies, and listings. They can also see a contact email — but only if you chose to add one in Edit profile.
They never see your account email, your orders, your notices, or your transactions. If you picked a precise location, only you see the exact address; everyone else sees the city.
12.3 Hiding currencies from your own wallet
To tidy your wallet without affecting anything else, tap the ••• beside a currency card’s name and choose Hide from main wallet (or swipe the card left and tap Hide).
A Hidden currencies row appears below your list. Open it and tap Show in main wallet to bring a currency back.
Hiding is personal to you — nobody else can tell. Your balance and history are untouched, and a currency that burns keeps burning while hidden.
For business owners — issuing your own currency
13.1 Creating a currency
From My Wallet → Issued tab, tap Create currency. A four-step wizard opens.
Step 1 — Identity. Which business the currency is for, the currency name, an optional short code, description, and icon.
The business name, currency name, and short code cannot be changed after creation. Everything else can.
Step 2 — Set its value. Your reference currency is detected from your saved location (for example PHP) and shown with an auto-detected badge. Then set the conversion rate — how many of your points equal one peso.
The reference currency is permanent. It cannot be changed after the currency exists.
Step 3 — Burn rate. Choose how fast unspent points lose value:
| Option | Rate | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Keeps full value | 0% / yr | Classic points that never change. |
| Burns gently (recommended, pre-selected) | 5% / yr | A soft nudge most customers barely notice. |
| Burns faster | 12% / yr | A stronger push to spend sooner. |
| Custom | any half-step 0–20% | Full control. |
A preview chart shows what 100 points is worth after 1 and 5 years.
Step 4 — Review & launch. Tick “I confirm these details are correct” and tap Launch. Your currency’s detail screen opens.
13.2 Branches
A branch is a physical place that accepts your currency. Customers only find you through branches, and you cannot send rewards until you have at least one.
From the currency screen tap Add Branch. The wizard asks for:
- Branch details — name (permanent), address, optional description.
- Currency — locked when you started from a specific currency.
- Points back — the reward rate. On your first branch you must set the currency-wide default; later branches can inherit it or use their own rate.
- Copy products (optional, and only when another branch already has some) — start the new branch with a copy of an existing catalogue.
- Review & launch.
Later you can edit the description, address, and rate. The name stays fixed. A branch can only be deleted once its products are cancelled or deactivated.
13.3 Products
From a branch, tap the add-product button. Five steps: name (permanent), category, photo (skippable), price, review.
Prices are typed in your national money as a guide — customers redeem points, not cash. There is a maximum price per product, shown on the price step (for example Maximum price: ₱116,000).
Once a product is on sale its price is locked; deactivate it first to change the price.
13.4 Creating points and the platform fee
Open your currency and choose Issue to myself under Manage currency.
Important: MyCurrency charges a platform fee of 50% of every amount you issue. The fee is paid in your own points, minted on top of what you issue — never in cash, and never deducted from what your customer receives.
So issuing 100 points creates 150 points of total supply: 100 for you, 50 to MyCurrency.
- There is no setup fee and no monthly fee.
- The very first issuance, created automatically with your currency, is free.
- Your currency screen has a Platform fee card showing the current rate and your monthly totals.
- If your business is on a promotional rate, the app always shows the rate that actually applies — never assume 50%.
13.5 Sending points as an issuer
From your currency screen, Send points lets you pay any user directly. If you send more than you currently hold, the app creates the shortfall for you in one action — and the amber notice on the sheet previews exactly how much new supply that creates, fee included, before you confirm.
13.6 Send to Checkout
If you also run the MyCurrency Checkout merchant app, your currency screen has a MyCurrency Checkout card marked Official. Tapping Send to Checkout sends points to your merchant account so you can hand them out at the counter. This is also how you prove currency ownership when first connecting the merchant app — see the MyCurrency Checkout Guide.
13.7 Redemptions
View Redemptions on your currency screen lists the vouchers created from orders at your branches, with their status and expiry. To redeem an older voucher a customer shows you, use Enter code or Scan QR on the Issued side of the Vouchers screen.
Your account
14.1 Editing your profile
Profile → Edit. You can change your photo and your visible email for other users — the address that appears on your public profile. Clear that field and save to stop showing a contact email at all.
Your username cannot be changed.
14.2 Changing your location
Profile → change next to Current location. Search and pick a new place. If your pick is outside a supported area you will be asked to choose a different one.
14.3 Deactivating your account
Edit profile → Deactivate account (top right). A dialog warns that other users will no longer see your currencies, branches, and products.
Deactivation is reversible: sign in again and an Activate account screen appears with one button that switches everything back on.
While deactivated, your points are safe, but you cannot trade and your profile is hidden.
14.4 Deleting your account permanently
There is no delete button in the app, by design. To have your account permanently removed:
- request deletion through Facebook’s own app settings, if you signed in with Facebook; or
- contact MyCurrency support.
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Your historical records stay in other people’s histories, shown as a deleted user. If you created a currency, people holding it keep their points, but the currency shows as no longer available in their wallets.
14.5 Signing out
Profile → the red Sign out row at the bottom, then confirm. This clears the session on this phone. Your account and balances are untouched.
Troubleshooting
| What happened | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “That username is already taken.” | Someone else has it — including deactivated accounts. | Pick a different name. |
| “Username cannot contain spaces” | Spaces are not allowed anywhere in a username. | Use an underscore. |
| A currency disappeared from Collected | Its balance reached zero. | It returns the next time you receive points in it. |
| A currency card is greyed with No longer available | The business that created it deleted their account. | Your points stay recorded, but the currency can no longer be used. |
| “must have enough currency in their holding to cover transfer amount” | You are trying to send more than your combined balance. | Lower the amount. |
| “must be greater than or equal to 1.00 currency units” | The minimum send is 1.00 points. | Raise the amount. |
| Confirm redemption is greyed out | Your balance does not cover the total. | The red line shows exactly how much more you need. |
| The redemption code was refused | It expired (30 minutes) or was already used. | Ask the cashier to show a fresh code. |
| “Wrong code. No voucher found” | The typed voucher code does not match. | Re-check the code on the buyer’s screen. |
| You are offline at launch | The app cannot verify your session. | The offline screen still shows your QR code so you can receive points. |
| The welcome screen appears unexpectedly | Your 24-hour session expired. | Sign in again. |
| Your balance dropped slightly overnight | That currency’s daily value decay ran. | Normal. Open Burn Details to see the rate. |
| An offer shows Canceled on its own | The offered balance dropped below the pledged amount, or someone deactivated their account. | Start a new offer. |
| Fields show N/A | The screen opened before its data loaded. | Pull down to refresh, or reopen the screen. |
| No phone notifications | Notification permission was declined. | Allow notifications in your phone’s settings. The in-app bell works regardless. |
Getting help
When you contact support, having these ready makes everything faster:
- your username
- the currency name and the business involved
- the date and time of what went wrong
- a screenshot of the screen or the message
Support can confirm your account identity and balances, and can escalate anything unusual. Support cannot reverse a completed transfer, a completed trade, or a redeemed voucher — these are permanent by design.
