General questions

What is the MyCurrency app?

MyCurrency lets any individual or business create their own currency — a system of points you issue that can be redeemed for your own goods and services, and that your customers can hold, transfer and trade.

How do I install the app?

It's 100% free. Download it from Google Play (Android) using the links at the top of this site. The iOS version is coming soon — it isn't on the App Store yet.

How do I sign up and register?

Sign up with Google or Facebook, choose a username (this can't be changed later), optionally add a photo, then pick the location closest to you. Tap Finish and your wallet opens; you're registered and can start creating currencies.

What is a currency?

In MyCurrency, a currency is a system of points issued by a user that pay for goods or services provided by that same user.

Can other people see how much I hold?

Not unless you choose to show it. By default your balance is private, so other users can't see how much you have. Open the currency and tap Manage Visibility to show your full balance, show only a custom amount, or keep it hidden. You can change this at any time.

What is a visible balance?

The part of your balance for a currency that you've chosen to let other users see. Making a balance visible is what lets other people send you trade offers for it; a hidden balance never receives offers. It's a trade-off between privacy and opportunity, and showing an amount never moves or locks any points.

What is a burn rate?

The annual rate at which a currency loses value while held, applied daily. It discourages hoarding and encourages customers to spend at your store. You can set it to 0.

What is the burn amount?

The total amount of a currency you have lost to date from the daily burn.

What are "Collected Currencies"?

Currencies you hold but did not create. They sit in the Collected tab of your wallet, which is where the points you earn from shops appear. Currencies you created are in the Issued tab.

Is the app really 100% free?

Yes: no setup fee and no monthly fee. For business owners the only charge is a platform fee on the points you create after your free first 1,000, paid in your own points and minted on top of what you issue, never in cash and never taken from your customer. The app always shows the rate that applies.

How is the value of a currency determined?

Currencies are not convertible to cash and have no price on MyCurrency. They are redeemable in the issuer's products and services, and the issuer decides what they're redeemable for and how many units each item costs.

Does the app work offline?

You need an internet connection to use the app, though you don't have to be online at the exact moment someone sends you a currency. Your personal QR code still works offline once you've opened the app online at least once.

For store owners

Can I use my store currency as loyalty points?

Yes — when you create your currency it can double as your loyalty-points program.

How do I issue currency to my customers?

The everyday way is MyCurrency Checkout, our free point-of-sale app: connect your currency once, then reward a customer by phone number or show a QR code for MyCurrency users to scan. You can also send points to any user straight from your currency screen in the MyCurrency app.

How do I replenish my own currency?

Open the currency from the Issued tab of your wallet, go to Settings and tap Issue to myself, enter the amount and confirm. A small issuance fee is added on top.

How do I add a branch and products?

From your currency screen tap Add Branch and follow the wizard (name, address, points-back rate). Then open the branch and add products: name, category, photo, and a price in your local money. Screenshots for every step are in the user guide under Guides.

How do I remove a product from my store?

Within 24 hours of creating a product you can deactivate it freely. After that you can cancel it (counts as a cancellation on your public record) or discontinue it (a 30-day-delayed cancellation that doesn't count against your record).

How do I change a product's price?

A product's price is locked while it's on sale. Within a day of listing it you can take it off sale, change the price, and relist; after that, discontinue or cancel it and add it again at the new price. This guarantees a price can't change after someone has agreed to buy.

Who receives the issuance fee?

This is how MyCurrency earns — not in cash, but in a share of the currency or loyalty points a business issues.

How many currencies, branches and products can I have?

There is no limit on any of them.

Do vouchers expire?

Yes — vouchers expire 30 days after they're issued.

For consumers

How do I claim store currency from a shop?

Give the cashier your phone number. Your reward arrives as a text or a QR you scan at the counter and opens your rewards wallet on the web, nothing to install. If you have the MyCurrency app, link it from your rewards page and every later reward lands straight in your wallet.

Where do I find currencies I received?

Any currency you hold but didn't create appears under Collected Currencies in your wallet.

How do I pay with points at the counter?

Tell the cashier what you want. They show a redemption QR; scan it with the MyCurrency app, check the total against your available balance, and tap Confirm redemption. The points are deducted and a voucher is saved under My Purchases as proof.

What if I have an older voucher?

Vouchers stay valid for 30 days. Open it under My Purchases and show its QR code tab, or give the text code to the branch owner, who redeems it from their Vouchers screen.

Are store currencies convertible to cash?

They can be — you're free to trade a currency for cash with another user, though this happens between users, not through MyCurrency itself.

How do I find users who have the currency I want?

Open a currency and view its Public Holders, browse the Listings tab, or post your own listing advertising the currency you're looking for.

Can a shop refuse to accept the currency it issued?

No — a shop cannot refuse currency it issued when a customer purchases items or services with it. MyCurrency can't guarantee, however, that an issuer will always produce the promised goods, so use your own judgement about who to trust.

How are trades within the app guaranteed?

Any offer or trade completed inside the app is executed automatically, ensuring both parties receive the points they agreed to. Transactions arranged outside the app are not guaranteed.
